India-specific context
What's different about gambling debt in India
Gambling regulation in India is a state subject, and laws differ significantly between states. Fantasy sports and online rummy are legal in many states; sports betting is more restricted. Regardless of the legal status, the financial harm is real and deserves to be addressed.
India's largest gambling harm spikes coincide with IPL season and cricket tournaments. If this is familiar to you, know that this pattern is common and well-documented, and recovery is possible regardless of how the gambling started.
India does not yet have a national gambling-specific helpline. iCall and Vandrevala Foundation are the most reliable free mental health support options. The financial tools on this site (the free calculator and the $20 kit) are currency-agnostic and work for INR-denominated debt.
