Common traps
Things that feel urgent but aren't (in the first 30 days)
When finances feel chaotic, it's tempting to act on every problem at once. Most of the time, that creates more chaos. Here's what can wait.
List everything first. Know what you actually owe before you start negotiating. Calling without a plan can set unhelpful precedents.
Debt consolidation can be useful — but only after you understand your full picture and have a plan. Taking on new debt in the first week almost always makes things worse.
The goal of the first week is a clear picture, not a solution. Survival budget first. Everything else in sequence.
Isolation makes financial recovery significantly harder. At minimum, consider speaking to a free financial counselor at GamFin — they won't judge you, and they've heard it before.
